About Thomas Hayes Gallery

Raised in the Bay Area by an antiques dealer mother and abandoned by his father, an infamous Hell’s Angel, Thomas Hayes determined early on that an artful career surrounded by beauty was a must for him. His early firsthand exposure through his mother and uncle to the process of artists and craftspeople, as well as their desire to find collectors, instilled in him a desire to collect, trade and sell, and he made his first foray into the business in the early days of eBay. His introduction to Modernism was completely happenstance: He drove by a pair of Eames lounge chairs sitting on a porch in the Bay Area and was instantly drawn to the clean lines and lack of ornate decoration, giving his modest one-man business a new direction.

A couple years later he made the brave move to LA with his wife and baby girl and started NOHO Modern in 2002, bringing on childhood friend Jeremy Petty as co-owner. They started off very humbly in a small space in North Hollywood, specializing in contemporary art and mid-century modern furnishings, and several years later opened a sunny gallery on La Cienega blvd in the La Cienega Design Quarter. These fruitful years were marked by a growing name in the design and art world and a number of carefully curated exhibitions, including artists Robert Hansen and June Harwood, ceramicist Victoria Littlejohn, sculptor James Prestini, Brazilian artist/designer Zanini de Zanine, and an overview of important mid-century Brazilian design featuring notable works by Jose Zanine Caldas, Joaquim Tenreiro, Lina Bo Bardi and Jorge Zalszupin.

Thomas Hayes’s vision, aesthetic and ambition have matured in the launch of his own THOMAS HAYES GALLERY in 2010 in a spacious 6500 square foot space in the heart of Hollywood, where he will continue to specialize in contemporary art and Modern Brazilian design, while still paying homage to relevant American and European names and designs as well. Thomas has carefully curated the private collections of several top clients and assisted with their interiors; he is continually expanding his existing signature studio line with striking, dramatic designs. Most recently he has launched THG Design/Build, offering full-service interior design and construction management services.
